New Features and Experiences
- A large, vibrant screen with smooth visuals
The Nintendo Switch 2 features a large built-in 7.9-inch LCD screen with full HD display at 1080p, while maintaining the same thickness as the Nintendo Switch. Even on the go, the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers vibrant, detailed gaming experiences, with smooth visuals that bring character movements and facial expressions to life.
- The Joy-Con 2 controllers attach to the system with a 'click'
Joy-Con 2 controllers, the newly designed controllers for the Nintendo Switch 2, magnetically attach to the Nintendo Switch 2 system. Additionally, each Joy-Con 2 controller can be used as a mouse by sliding it across a surface like a table or your pants. Mouse control can be utilized in various ways, such as in games that require aiming.
- A new adjustable stand and an additional USB-C port
The angle of the stable stand on the back of the Nintendo Switch 2 system is freely adjustable, allowing players to easily find a comfortable viewing angle. While the original Nintendo Switch only has one USB-C port at the bottom of the system, the Nintendo Switch 2 also includes a port on the top, where players can connect the included power supply to charge the system in tabletop mode. It is also possible to connect a compatible USB-C camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 camera, for video chat during GameChat.
- More powerful processing speed and graphics capabilities
The Nintendo Switch 2 features significantly better CPU and GPU capabilities compared to the Nintendo Switch, enabling higher processing speed and visually advanced gameplay. More detailed graphics and faster load times can also be achieved.
- Clear sound quality and spatial 3D audio
Sound quality on the Nintendo Switch 2 is naturally clearer with improved balance. Whether playing in handheld or tabletop mode, players experience games with rich three-dimensional sound.
- Internal storage of 256 GB
The internal storage of the Nintendo Switch 2, where digital games and saved data can be stored, is 256 GB, eight times larger than the storage capacity of the Nintendo Switch. For additional storage, the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusively uses microSD Express cards, enabling faster data read and write speeds compared to previous microSD card types.
- Nintendo Switch games are also playable on the Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital games released on the Nintendo Switch alongside Nintendo Switch 2 games. Some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported or may not be fully compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers and accessories, such as the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, can also be used on the Nintendo Switch 2 via wireless connection. Visit the Nintendo website for information on the compatibility of Nintendo Switch games and accessories.
- The new Nintendo Switch 2 dock
By connecting the Nintendo Switch 2 via the dock to a television, users can utilize resolutions up to 4K and frame rates up to 120 fps for compatible games and televisions.
- Play one game with multiple users via GameShare
With GameShare, a new Nintendo Switch 2 feature, players can share and play a game with others who do not own the game. If a person has a Nintendo Switch 2 system and a game compatible with GameShare, that person can invite others to temporarily play locally on their own Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch system with the game. Nintendo Switch 2 systems can also use GameShare online with GameChat, allowing players to chat while playing the same game.
- Virtual game cards provide more benefits for digital games
With virtual game cards, players can easily manage digital games, use them on two systems, or even lend and borrow them. There is a special management menu where players can see all digital games purchased with their Nintendo account, making it easy to use and input on a system. Once a virtual game card is entered on a system, that game can be played without an internet connection, and other users on the system can also play the game. Furthermore, digital games can be lent as virtual game cards between members of the same Nintendo account family group via local wireless communication.
- Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo Switch Online*2 will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. On the Nintendo Switch 2, players can use features such as GameChat with a Nintendo Switch Online membership in addition to existing online services. Nintendo Switch 2 owners may use GameChat temporarily without a Nintendo Switch Online membership during the GameChat welcome promotion, which lasts until March 31, 2026. After that, a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required to use GameChat. Additionally, starting from the release date of the Nintendo Switch 2, the Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics collection will be available. Players with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership and a Nintendo Switch 2 can play this growing collection of Nintendo GameCube games with a clearer image and higher resolution than the original versions. From the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, F-ZERO GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and SOULCALIBUR II will be available. For Nintendo Switch Online members, a special wireless controller based on the original Nintendo GameCube controller will also be available.*3
- Various accessibility features
In addition to existing accessibility features for the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 offers an array of new accessibility options to support players' different play styles, such as variable text sizes, a text-to-speech function, and a speech-to-text feature in GameChat.
- Safe, enjoyable gaming experiences on the Nintendo Switch 2
With the "Parental Controls for Nintendo Switch" app, parents can see what games their children are playing on their smart device and can set a daily playtime limit if desired. For GameChat, children under 16 must receive permission from a parent or guardian through the "Parental Controls for Nintendo Switch" app before they can start a chat session, allowing parents and guardians to ensure that their children's chat experiences are safe.
