Origin and world of the character
The character of Ghost Face is the recurring antagonist of the famous slasher franchise Scream, launched by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson in 1996. Hidden beneath a long black robe and a ghostly white mask, the killer persecutes his victims over the phone before carrying out his deed. The figure is a direct homage to a cult pop culture scene from the Wayans brothers' parody film Scary Movie (2000). In this now cult comedy, the killer (revisited as Doofy/Bobby) sticks out a huge, hilarious tongue during a memorable telephone conversation punctuated by the line "Wazzaaa? This "Tongue in Cheek" design brilliantly blends the angst of traditional horror cinema with the absurd humour of 2000s parodies.
