DEMON SLAYER – Hakuji – Vibration Stars 15 cm Figure
From Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, this Banpresto figurine depicts Hakuji, Akaza’s human form prior to his transformation into a demon. Part of the Vibration Stars range, it stands approximately 15 cm tall and showcases a very different side to the Third Upper Moon: that of a young human fighter trained in martial arts.
Hakuji is depicted in a very stable fighting stance, with his legs apart and slightly bent. His right hand is held out in front of him, palm open, whilst his left fist remains tucked close to his body. This understated yet dynamic composition fits perfectly with the identity of the Vibration Stars range, which focuses on characters captured in the midst of a movement or technique.
In contrast to Akaza’s extremely colourful, demonic appearance, this figurine features a deliberately simple colour scheme. Hakuji wears a white keikogi tied with a black belt, with no shoes or accessories. His short, dark hair and large blue eyes, however, make the physical resemblance to Akaza immediately recognisable. This lack of adornment emphasises, above all, the character’s martial discipline and technique.

Character background and lore
Hakuji is the name Akaza went by when he was still human. He grew up in extreme poverty with his seriously ill father and began stealing to buy his father’s medicine. After several arrests and punishments, his father took his own life, no longer wanting his son to commit crimes just to keep him alive. This event plunged Hakuji into deep anger and left a lasting mark on his personality.
After being driven out of Edo, Hakuji meets Keizo, the master of a martial arts dojo. Keizo manages to defeat him and then decides to take him in. He also asks him to look after his daughter Koyuki, a young woman in fragile health. Hakuji gradually finds a new family with them, perfects his art of unarmed combat and is eventually offered the chance to take over the dojo and marry Koyuki.
This happy period comes to an abrupt end when a rival dojo poisons the well used by Keizo and Koyuki, leading to their deaths. Hakuji, devastated by the loss of the two people he had grown close to, goes to the dojo responsible and kills its members with his bare hands. Shortly after this tragedy, he meets Muzan Kibutsuji, who transforms him into a demon and gives him the name Akaza.
Having become a demon, Akaza loses most of his human memories but unconsciously retains several traces of Hakuji: his obsession with martial arts, his constant search for powerful opponents and certain elements of his fighting style all stem directly from his past life. The story centred on Akaza and Hakuji plays a particularly central role in *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle*, whose official website explicitly links Hakuji and Koyuki to the character’s memories.
This Vibration Stars figurine therefore has a special significance: rather than depicting the Third Upper Moon with her tattoos and demonic powers, it represents Hakuji, the human fighter whose technique, losses and tragic fate gave rise to Akaza.
